How does an overhead crane move and how is it supported?
A Gorbel crane moves in both the x & y directions. It can be easily moved manually by the operator or it can be motorized. The crane’s hoist is connected by a trolley to a horizontal beam called a bridge. The hoist moves back and forth along the bridge. The bridge the travels on steel beams called runways. The runways are supported by freestanding posts or the steel structure that supports the celling. The area under the crane where material can be picked up is called the hook coverage area.
